Workplace safety for supervisors training
Supervisors set the pace on the floor. This two-day course shows them how safety, production and profit fit together in their own role, so they control risk as part of running the shift rather than leaving it to the safety officer. We present this safety training for supervisors at your workplace in Cape Town.

It's a common attitude among supervisors, and an understandable one. Most are promoted for being good at production and are measured on output. Nobody shows them how safety fits into that job.
But the supervisor is the person standing next to the work when something goes wrong. They decide whether a guard stays on, whether a spill is cleaned now or later, and whether a new worker is shown the right way. A supervisor who understands risk, and how losses hit the bottom line, makes the whole safety system work. This course builds that understanding.

- Explain basic business measures such as return on investment, profit margins and production targets

- Describe their legal responsibilities as a supervisor
- Use hazard identification techniques and basic risk management on their own section

The law behind the courseThe Acts and regulations behind this service
| Law | Section | What it requires |
|---|---|---|
| Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 | Section 8 | The employer must provide information, instruction, training and supervision needed to keep employees safe |
| Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 | Section 16(2) | The CEO may assign health and safety duties to others, which often includes supervisors |
Why should supervisors get safety training?
Supervisors are the people directing the work when most incidents happen, so their decisions have the biggest effect on whether controls are used. The OHS Act also requires employers to provide supervision needed for safety, and a trained supervisor is how most businesses meet that duty in practice.
How is this different from the Health and Safety Representative course?
A health and safety representative inspects and reports on behalf of fellow employees, while a supervisor directs the work and is accountable for how it's done. This course focuses on control and decision-making. The Health and Safety Representative course focuses on inspections and representation.
Is this course suitable for new supervisors?
Yes. It works well both for newly promoted supervisors and for experienced supervisors who have never had formal safety training, and also for employees being prepared for promotion.
