First Aid Level 1 training
Most workplace accidents can be prevented, but when one happens, the first few minutes count. This two-day course trains your employees to give first aid to an injured colleague until medical help arrives, and to meet the employer's legal duty to have trained first aiders on site. We present First Aid Level 1 training at your workplace in Cape Town.

Why every workplace needs trained first aiders
Under the General Safety Regulations of the OHS Act, an employer with more than 10 employees on a site must have at least one qualified first aider for every 50 employees, along with a first aid box. That makes First Aid Level 1 one of the most commonly required courses in any South African workplace.
A first aider who has practised CPR, bandaging and scene control is calmer and quicker in a real emergency. That can be the difference between a minor injury and a serious one.
What delegates will be able to do
By the end of the course, delegates can define, describe and apply the requirements for giving first aid in the workplace. In practice, that means they can:
- Take control of an emergency scene and keep themselves and others safe
- Check a casualty's condition and decide what to treat first
- Perform CPR and artificial respiration on an adult
- Help a choking casualty
- Control bleeding and dress wounds
- Support suspected fractures, head and spinal injuries
- Treat burns, shock and fainting
- Know what a workplace first aid box must contain and how to keep records
Course modules
The content is built around the General Safety Regulations and OHS Act principles. It is outcomes-based, with plenty of hands-on practice.

Who should attend
Anyone you plan to appoint as a first aider, plus supervisors, SHE committee members, security staff and contractors. Many employers train more people than the legal minimum, so there's always a first aider on every shift and in every building.
What delegates receive
Each delegate who completes the course receives a First Aid Level 1 certificate for your training records.
How many first aiders does my workplace need?
If more than 10 employees work at a workplace, the General Safety Regulations require at least one trained first aider for every group of up to 50 employees. For example, a site with 120 employees needs at least three first aiders. Many employers add extra first aiders to cover shifts, leave and separate buildings.
How long is the First Aid Level 1 course?
First Aid Level 1 runs over two full days. The first day covers the law, scene management and first aid principles. The second day focuses on practical skills such as CPR, bleeding control, fractures and burns, with every delegate practising the techniques on training equipment.
Can you run the course at our workplace?
Yes. We run First Aid Level 1 on site for groups of your employees, which saves travel time and lets us use your own first aid equipment and emergency procedures in the training.
Does the certificate expire?
Yes. First aid certificates have to be renewed, and the General Safety Regulations expect appointed first aiders to hold a valid certificate. We confirm the validity period and refresher timing when you book.
