General safety training for employees
A safety system only works when the people doing the work take part in it. This two-day course gives employees and contractors the safety, health and environment (SHE) knowledge they need to spot hazards, work safely and speak up. We present this general safety training on site for businesses in Cape Town.

Policies, risk assessments and procedures are written in the office. Incidents happen on the floor. The gap between the two is closed by employees who understand why the rules exist and feel able to act when something looks wrong.
This course builds that understanding at every level of the business. Employees learn the basics of occupational health, their own legal responsibilities, and how your SHE programme works, so they can take part in it rather than simply being told about it.
What delegates will be able to do
- Explain basic SHE principles and why health and safety matter in industry
- Contribute to the SHE system through safe behaviour
- Identify potentially hazardous tasks and conditions
- Understand their own responsibilities under the OHS Act
- Take part in safety discussions and decisions in their team

The law behind the courseThe Acts and regulations behind this service
| Law | Section | What it requires |
|---|---|---|
| Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 | Section 8 | The employer must give employees the information, instruction, training and supervision needed for their health and safety |
| Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 | Section 14 | Employees must take reasonable care of their own and others' health and safety, and report unsafe situations |
Is general safety training a legal requirement?
The OHS Act does not name a "general safety" course, but section 8 requires employers to give employees the information, instruction and training they need to work safely. A structured course with a certificate is one of the clearest ways to show you have met that duty.
Who should do this course first?
Start with new employees and anyone who has never had formal safety training, then extend it to contractors who work regularly on your premises. Supervisors and SHE committee members also benefit, because the course gives everyone the same foundation and language.
Can you tailor the course to our workplace?
Yes. When we train at your premises we use examples from your own processes, equipment and hazards, which makes the material easier to apply.
